Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my blog! I’m Caitlin, a 22-year-old from Adelaide, Australia with a passion for all forms of dance. I have trained in many dance styles from a young age including contemporary, jazz, tap and ballet, but I have a newfound love for hip hop. Through this blog I plan to document my journey not only training in the genre but learning about its history and its influence on society and pop culture.
I will always be thankful for my technical foundations in contemporary and jazz but throughout high school, I felt my passion for these genres begin to fade. I would spend much of my spare time on YouTube watching performance videos of hip hop dance crews and Korean pop groups, both of which showcased intricate choreography that made you want to watch the video 100 times in a row. I was always in awe of their sheer talent and incredible synchronicity and musicality, and thanks to this I knew my love of dance was still alive. However, I was too nervous to break out of my comfort zone and begin learning hip hop myself.
Fortunately the confidence I needed came over time and in April of 2018 I joined a local dance crew known as ABK Crew. Made up of beginner dancers, the crew specialises in covers of K-pop choreographies just like the ones I spent my high school years watching. This crew was the perfect opportunity to branch out and try different styles, while meeting people with similar interests along the way. I’m still with ABK Crew to this day and my focus has shifted to hip hop dance, even though I lack any training in the genre. But that is the purpose of this blog after all.
